KYFIX is a neutral, not-for-profit Internet Exchange Point operating an open connection policy. Any organization operating a network with a globally unique public ASN may connect, subject to the technical requirements below and execution of the KYFIX Participation Agreement and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
Eligibility & Requirements to Connect
- Hold a globally unique, public ASN and operate BGP-4 / MP-BGP.
- Present a single MAC address per physical port and a single ASN per connection.
- Use only the IPv4 / IPv6 addresses assigned by KYFIX on the peering LAN; announce only address space the participant is authorized to originate.
Fabric Rules
- Only unicast IPv4 / IPv6 (and ARP / ND) is permitted on the peering LAN. Prohibited: link-local and discovery protocols (Spanning Tree / BPDU, CDP / LLDP, VTP / DTP, keepalives), proxy ARP, ICMP redirects, IRDP, DHCP / BOOTP, and directed broadcasts.
- Layer 2 only, no loops, standard 1500-byte MTU on the primary peering VLAN.
Routing
- Participants may establish bilateral BGP sessions and/or peer with the KYFIX route servers for multilateral peering (optional).
- No participant may point a default route at, or use, another participant for transit across the fabric without a separate bilateral agreement between those parties. The exchange is for the mutual exchange of traffic between participants.
Administrative
- Participants execute the KYFIX Participation Agreement and AUP.
- Participants maintain a reachable 24×7 NOC / technical contact.
